With the eleventh issue of Rocznik Muzeum Narodowego w Warszawie. Nowa Seria / Journal of the National Museum in Warsaw. New Series we celebrate the 160th anniversary of the NMW’s founding. To mark the occasion, this instalment of the journal contains articles on the early days of the institution and its first purchases. A second block of texts covers Early Modern European art. A lengthy article by Peter van den Brink shines an utterly novel light on the nature of the relationship between Joos van Cleve and Albrecht Dürer, and on the objective of the latter’s trip to Antwerp. This new insight is sure to be a breakthrough in the international study of Dürer’s life and work. Also included in this section are articles on Carel Fabritius’s painting The Raising of Lazarus (by Antoni Ziemba) and the workshop processes of Caravaggio and the Caravaggists (by Grażyna Bastek and Mateusz Jasiński).
Issues of the New Series Journal are successively published on the website of Heidelberg University.
