The twelfth issue of the Rocznik Muzeum Narodowego w Warszawie. Nowa Seria / Journal of the National Museum in Warsaw. New Series will be the last print edition of our academic magazine. Subsequent issues will only be available in electronic format.
The issue showcases a range of objects from the museum’s collections, including French and Nordic paintings, a Chinese calligraphic diptych, a Polish solitaire cards with figures from the Great War and, finally, an obelisk with an Assyrian inscription that turned out to be a forgery.
The second set of essays concerns the history of museums and exhibitions. It features an extensive article by Krzysztof Pomian and Antoni Ziemba on the relationship between art and history in art museums, a piece about the Łazienki Park and Palace complex’s collection of paintings, and a cross-sectional article outlining the history of the separation of the Polish Art Gallery from the State Art Collections.
Lastly, we remember our late NMW colleagues.
Enjoy!
