Biedermeier narodził się w krajach niemieckich po Kongresie Wiedeńskim (1815) i trwał do Wiosny Ludów (1848); wywarł znaczący wpływ na całą Europę. Wystawa, na której pokazujemy ponad 400 eksponatów: obrazów, mebli, szkieł, porcelany, tkanin i strojów, biżuterii i bibelotów, obejmuje zarówno niemiecką, jak i narodowe odmiany kierunku, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem sztuki biedermeieru na ziemiach polskich – Królestwa Polskiego, Wielkiego Księstwa Poznańskiego, Galicji czy Wileńszczyzny.
