Film dokumentalny „Legenda Grunwaldu” jest opowieścią o jednej z największych bitew średniowiecznej Europy. O przyczynach, skutkach i późniejszym rezonansie stoczonej 15 lipca 1410 r. na polach Grunwaldu bitwy opowiadają wybitni historycy z Polski, Litwy, Niemiec. W filmie wykorzystano bezcenne materiały archiwalne z lat 40. XX wieku dokumentujące konserwację obrazu Jana Matejki „Bitwa pod Grunwaldem”.
