a meeting in the cycle Guided tours of the NMW permanent galleries
This meeting in the Gallery of Old Art is devoted to the section entitled The City. It is divided into further parts: Citizens and their institutions – the town hall and the guild; The town house and its inhabitants; Pictures in collectors’ cabinets; The ethos of the patricians and their vision of the common people. This part of the Gallery shows how works of decorative art, painting and sculpture shaped urban high culture. The story closes with a city unlike any other – A city for export: Venice. The tour is complemented by treasures of the decorative arts in three cabinets: porcelain, glass and rock crystal, and goldsmiths’ work.

Monika Miżołębska – a graduate of the Institute of Art History at the University of Warsaw. For many years an educator and lecturer in the Education Department of the National Museum in Warsaw, and author of audio descriptions in the Gallery of Medieval Art. She gives lectures, classes for children and adults, and family workshops. Her interests include the history of food and the borderland of art and social custom.
